History – Dumfries is renowned for its local history - be it castles and abbeys, country houses or early Christian monuments. Perhaps you'd like to see the river Nith where 'Peter Pan' author J M Barrie played as a boy, or maybe visit the area where they filmed the cult 1970's horror film 'The Wicker Man', it's all here and more.

Nature – With beautiful scenery at every turn, you don't have to travel far to discover nature in Dumfries. Why not visit the local wildlife park at Kirkcudbright or the animal welfare centre at Mossburn? Several stretches of the coastline have also been designated as wild fowl and seabird trust areas where twitchers can observe these birds in their natural habitats to their heart's content! And of course, if rambling is for you, a short car ride will take you to some beautiful local landscapes and walks.

Rabbie Burns – Although born in Ayrshire, Scotland 's national bard lived much of his adult life in Dumfries, giving a number of Burns attractions to explore as a result. In addition to the house where Burns lived and the farmhouse he built, there is a museum devoted to him, and the Inn where he used to drink still stands - complete with the seat he was reputed to sit on while enjoying a dram. The mausoleum where Burns is buried is a five minute walk from the Rondo's front door.
